The Birth of Compact

When Bobcat began, compact equipment simply didn't exist; machinery came in one size, big. Anyone working in tight spaces, or who couldn't afford large equipment, was left with a shovel and a wheelbarrow. In 1956 a turkey farmer approached blacksmith brothers Louis and Cyril Keller needing a machine light and nimble enough to clear manure from the upper floor of his barn, where heavy loader tractors couldn't go. The Kellers built the first three-wheeled compact loader, demand exploded, and they partnered with the four Melroe brothers to keep up. An industry was born.

Today Bobcat builds a complete range of compact equipment, including skid-steer loaders, compact track loaders, mini excavators, and compact utility vehicles, alongside attachments such as buckets, grapples, hydraulic breakers, and telescopic handlers. Its emissions-compliant engines, automatic ride control, and the well-known Toolcat utility machines make it a go-to for landscaping, maintenance, snow removal, and far more.
