Doosan Group is among the oldest companies in South Korea, with origins reaching back to the late nineteenth century, and over the decades it grew into one of the country's largest industrial conglomerates. Its move into heavy machinery and engines came in 2005, when it acquired Daewoo Heavy Industries & Machinery and rebranded the business as Doosan Infracore, inheriting a deep engineering heritage in excavators, construction equipment, and engines.

Engines and Equipment Built to Endure

The Doosan engine and equipment line earned its reputation on durability: compact and industrial diesel engines, excavators, wheel loaders, and construction machinery built to keep working in demanding conditions. Doosan engines have long powered both the company's own equipment and machines from other manufacturers, and the brand became a benchmark for rugged, serviceable power in the heavy-equipment world.

Global Expansion and Bobcat

Doosan expanded aggressively on the world stage, most notably with its landmark 2007 acquisition of Bobcat from Ingersoll Rand, which brought the iconic compact-equipment brand into the Doosan family. The group built out a worldwide dealer and service network spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia, cementing its place as a global heavy-industry name.

Today's Structure

Following financial restructuring, Doosan's heavy-equipment and engine business was acquired by the Hyundai Heavy Industries group and now operates as HD Hyundai Infracore, with its construction line rebranded as Develon. The Bobcat business remained within the Doosan Group as Doosan Bobcat. For owners and rebuilders, the practical takeaway is simple: the Doosan-engineered engines and machines built over the years remain widely in service and supported across the globe.
