The modern engine and tractor business was originally established to manufacture light and heavy engines before expanding its portfolio into the broader machinery that the brand is known for today.

Building a Tractor Line

Shibaura steadily widened its reach in agriculture. In 1961 it began producing two-wheel and four-wheel tractors up to 40 hp, and in 1978 it launched a new series of tractors rated above 50 hp. Though relatively young compared with some long-established European makers, the company grew quickly and earned an excellent reputation for the quality of what it builds, gaining steady global recognition in machinery and engines.

Partnerships That Shaped the Industry

Shibaura's engineering has quietly underpinned some of the biggest names in the field. It signed a long-term supply agreement with Ford tractors, now part of CNH, in 1972; agreed in 1990 to supply and design tractors for Yanmar; and formed a joint venture with Perkins in China in 2008 that produced the Perkins Shibaura Engines. These collaborations speak to the trust the industry places in Shibaura's engineering.

A Broad Machinery Portfolio

To serve customers worldwide, Shibaura expanded its presence with Shibaura Europe B.V., founded in 1991, and Shibaura Deutschland GmbH in 2008, working hand in hand with specialist dealers. Overall the company manufactures and supplies a wide range of machinery, including CNC machines, machining centres, grinders, injection moulding machines, and diesel engines, all carrying the precision the Shibaura name stands for.
